The Solar Powered Holiday Lights.Looking for more than the standard string of solar Christmas lights?  You have come to the right place!  This set of solar Christmas Lights with 102 bright LEDs has three different light setting options.  The first option allows you to run 7 different light patterns in succession. The second option allows you to select your favorite sequence to flash continuously and the third option allows you to set the lights to provide steady illumination all at the touch of a button.

Available in  Red, Green, Blue and White. Choose one color or create a mixture of colors .  Remember solar lights can be used year round so you aren’t limited to just using them during the holidays, they can be used anytime during the year and make great decorations and soft ambient lighting in your yard.

As with most solar lights, the installation is easy and effortless.  There is a small solar panel that stakes into the ground up to 7 feet away from the stand of lights.  Solar energy charges the lights for up to nine hours after an eight hour charge. The panel also automatically turns on the lights at dusk and turns them off at dawn.

The strand of 102 bright LEDs is 32′ 9″ long which makes it convenient to wrap around trees, railings and other outdoor objects. The LEDs are rated for 10,000 hours of operation.

Added benefits of using solar Christmas lights include no extra charges on your utility bills and using sustainable energy.

What are you waiting for? Join the growing movement to solar lights and add solar Christmas lights to your holiday decorations this year!

Talk soon,

P.S. Since you’ve made the decision to go “green” for your decorations, here is a “green” gift idea for those on your list. Consider giving this adorable Boy with Fireflies solar garden light.  It will be cherished for years to come.

I was driving to work listening to the morning news on the radio when the announcer said that NV Energy had received permission by the Public Utilities Commission of NV to raise their rates 3.4% starting July 1st because of lost revenue due to energy conservation by consumers. Yes, it seems that NV Energy needs the money from higher rates to pay $71 million in energy-conservation programs, such as low-income weatherization initiatives and collection of old refrigerators, and $35 million to cover lower electricity sales resulting from ratepayer conservation. NV Energy had initially asked for a 5.4% hike. Jennifer Robison of The Las Vegas Review-Journal covers the story in her article:

NV Energy Wins Rate Increase

An excerpt from the article: “During a time of economic crisis, (NV Energy) is asking us to pay more,” said Barry Gold, a representative of AARP. “They ask us to save energy, but the better we conserve, the more it’s going to cost us. We’re already first in foreclosures and first in unemployment. We don’t want to be first in electricity shutoffs too.” But commissioners said the law left them with little choice. The final order was “about the only thing you could do,” said Commissioner Rebecca Wagner said. “You couldn’t trim more and maintain the balance between shareholders and ratepayers.” Wagner added that “a confluence of events” made the decision difficult. “Advocates at the Legislature push energy efficiency without recognizing that ratepayers are pretty much maxed out. We’ve had no load growth (increase in customers) and we have a high foreclosure rate,” Wagner said.

I have to admit, I’m just as stunned and unhappy as the other 99 people who have left their feedback on this article. Now I do enjoy my electricity, having hot water, lights at night, a stove, refrigerator, AIR CONDITIONING, heating etc. as well as the next person but seriously?  It seems there is no way to win as a consumer. Rates increase if the usage goes up and if it goes down. No problem justifying a rate increase either way. NV Energy website has an entire section on Saving Energy

Looking for ways to lower your power bill and save some money? You’ve come to the right place, with conservation programs, advice and tips we can help you stay comfortable in your home or business while reducing your energy costs.

I don’t know about you but this just isn’t adding up for me. I would really like to know NV Energy’s long term plans. What WILL happen to their revenue (and business) when there are other viable alternative energy sources and options to consumers. For me, energy conservation is two fold, it’s about using less and honoring our planet and also about reducing living expenses wherever possible. So, I for one will continue to conserve energy while voicing  my opinion with the NV PUC and other government leaders and will make my vote count.

P.S.  Have kids and want to conserve energy at night without having to leave a light on for them? Buy a solar night light that charges by sunlight during the day and has a mellow glow at night.

I have been doing some research for a solar night light for kids that I can give as baby shower and birthday gifts.

I’m happy to report that  from my research and the many reviews I’ve read, I’m choosing the Mobi Tykelight Glomate as my selection for the best solar night light for kids!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

This year I’ve decided that I want to make a donation to a local food bank but I don’t know what the amount should be, so I’m asking for your help!

Starting today, Sunday December 5th, through Friday December 31st, 2010 at midnight for every new “Like” at my Buy Solar Powered Lights Facebook Page I’m going to donate $1 to a local food bank. Pass this on to your friends and family so we can all have a small part in making a difference in someone’s life.

Thanks for the “Like” and for helping contribute to a local foodbank where resources are in such high demand.

Wishing you the best this Holiday Season!!

UPDATE: There were 10 new “Likes” on my FB page in December so I matched that number and made a $20 donation to the Three Square food bank in Las Vegas. Thank you for your support!
